The monster truck family, as well as all of us on the Stone Crusher and Hooked Monster Truck team lost a great friend on New Years Eve as Maxie Broaddus passed away unexpectedly. Maxie was the owner and driver of the Walking Tall monster truck. Maxie became great friends with all of us and was a bright spot in many of our lives. Away from the track Maxie was a dedicated worker who devoted himself to his craft. Over time Maxie grew his farming business into one of the largest in the state of Virginia. Maxie had a big heart and a soft spot for children as he regularly participated in children’s events and donated his time. As seen on the bedsides of Walking Tall Maxie always said “It’s all about the kids.” Our hearts go out to Maxie’s family and friends during this difficult time.

In honor of Maxie Broaddus the team will be competing this season with a graphic dedicated to him on both the Stone Crusher and Hooked for 2016. “Maxie will be riding with us all year. We lost a great friend and it just doesn’t seem real. Maxie, you better hold on tight, Sims’ is taking your long legged ass for a ride!” commented Steve Sims.

Last week marked one of the favorite stops on the Stone Crusher team’s calendar, the annual Back to School Monster Truck Bash at the Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway. With the always interesting crossover racing course and plenty of big freestyle obstacles the event is always a fun time for fan and drivers alike. Over the last nine years the annual Monsters On The Beach has been a mainstay on the Stone Crusher Monster Truck team’s schedule. The hometown event is one of the most looked forward to events for driver Steve Sims and the entire crew as it’s a weekend at one of the most unique Monster Truck events in the country right in their backyard. Many local fans make the trip down to the Oceanfront to cheer on their local hero’s in the Sims family with the Stone Crusher and Hooked trucks so the team goes the extra mile to make sure the fans that have supported them from day one get an amazing show each and every time the trucks hit the track. This year would be no different as they battled for the King of the Beach title as well as the George Carpenter Cup trophy awarded to the winner. After three straight years of coming up short Sims would not be denied as he pulled out all the stops and would finally claim the trophy. [Read more…]

After a grueling eight weeks of competition the Monster Jam Fox Sports 1 Championship Series came to its final stop in Syracuse, New York where Stone Crusher and 15 others would try to make their mark on the end of long season. While Steve Sims hasn’t been at the top of the standings, he was one of the most consistent competitors on the series all season long and turned in a number of good showings through out the season coming into Syracuse. Round Five of the Monster Jam Fox Sports 1 Championship Series brought the Stone Crusher Monster Truck team to St. Louis, Missouri’s Edward Jones Dome for the next event on the season. The previous weekend in Indianapolis saw Steve Sims and the Stone Crusher break through and score their first point on the season, and were looking to gain some more on the massive floor in St. Louis. Round Two of the Monster Jam Fox Sports 1 Championship Series brought the Stone Crusher Monster Truck team to a familiar stop, as they returned to Atlanta, Georgia’s Georgia Dome. After a trying weekend in Houston with mechanical troubles cutting their night short, Steve Sims and the Stone Crusher were ready to turn their luck around early in the new season. After a strong 2014 campaign Steve Sims and the Stone Crusher Monster Truck team were invited to be a part of the all new Monster Jam Fox Sports 1 Championship Series in 2015. The series features 16 of the industry’s top trucks in a nine week tour across the United States at some of the nation’s most prestigious stadiums.
